Arnold MD- The CCBC Catonsville Lady Cardinal's first season in four years came to an end on Saturday as they fell 13-0 in the first round of the Region 20 NJCAA playoffs to the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks.
The Riverhawks were relentless all game offensively against the shorthanded Cardinals, starting the scoring just past the two-minute mark with a goal from Emma Miga. That would be the first of two goals for Miga as she would add in her second at the four-minute mark. Alyssa Simms added the next two goals in the first half at the five and thirty-four-minute marks, with assists from Kat Budowski and Alaina Minefski. The Riverhawks would put up twenty-one shots in the half with seven goals.
Cardinals' goalie Kayla Cox would compete in goal all day, finishing with thirteen saves in the contest. AACC would continue their pressure on the Cardinals in the second half with an opening half goal from Alyssa Simms to stretch their lead to eight and give Simms the hat trick as she was the leading goal scorer in the contest. Five different Riverhawks scored in the second half, with goals from Alyssa Simms, Riley Sheets, Maddie Raynes (2), Eden Abey, and Reagan Chilton. The two seed Riverhawks will look to carry over their impressive offensive performance into the next round against Allegany College in the semifinals of the Region 20 NJCAA playoffs.
A congratulations to the Lady Cardinals on an impressive and resilient first season back in over four years. This should serve as a good launching point for the Lady Cardinal's program and their future as they'll look to shore up the roster and improve heading into next season.
