Cardinals Continue to Compete Hard in Home Match with Essex

Catonsville, MD – The CCBC Catonsville women's soccer team put together a strong first-half performance and continued to compete hard throughout the match but ultimately fell 4–1 to a sharp CCBC Essex squad on Tuesday afternoon.

Essex opened the scoring in the 30th minute before the Cardinals answered back quickly. Just two minutes later, Alexandra Wilson delivered a composed finish from distance to level the score at 1–1. Wilson's goal—her second of the season—energized Catonsville and highlighted the team's persistence in the attacking third.

The match remained tight into the second half, with both sides battling for control in the midfield. Essex eventually pulled ahead midway through the half with a pair of quick goals and added a fourth late to seal the result.

Goalkeeper Kayla Cox turned in another standout performance for the Cardinals, recording nine saves on 13 shots on goal. Cox's efforts, along with the defensive work of Abigail Webb and Maggie Rowland, helped keep the Cardinals organized under pressure.

Offensively, Wilson led the way with all four of Catonsville's shots, three of which were on target. Midfielders Gianna Guglieminetti and Nicole Diaz contributed to several strong possessions that helped Catonsville create chances against a disciplined Essex back line.

Despite the final score, the Cardinals showed focus and determination throughout the match, continuing to build chemistry and confidence as the regular season winds down.
