Lady Cardinals Battle Hard in 3-1 Loss to Prince Georges Owls

Catonsville, MD – The Lady Cardinals showed heart, grit, and determination in a thrilling battle against the PGCC Owls on September 11, 2025, falling 3-1 in a game that was far closer than the scoreboard suggested.

Down to just 10 players due to injuries, Catonsville came out firing and stunned PGCC early. In the 16th minute, Alexandria Wilson buried a perfectly struck free kick to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead, proving that they weren't going down quietly.

The defense, anchored by a great performance from backup goalkeeper Kayla Cox, frustrated the Owls for much of the match. Cox was nothing short of amazing, recording 16 saves—eight in each half—against a relentless PGCC attack. PGCC poured on the pressure, finishing the match with 25 total shots, 19 of them being on goal compared to Catonsville's 3, yet the Cardinals held strong for more than 70 minutes.

The Owls finally broke through in the 72nd minute with a goal from Jeily Garmerndez, and as fatigue set in for the short-handed Cardinals, PGCC added two late goals in the 85th and 88th minutes to complete the comeback.

Despite the 3-1 result, the Lady Cardinals' effort was nothing short of heroic. Playing undermanned, they showed resilience, teamwork, and toughness that kept them toe-to-toe with a heavy-shooting PGCC side for most of the match. With standout leadership and Cox's fearless goalkeeping, the Cardinals proved they are a team that refuses to quit.
