Catonsville MD- The CCBC Lady Cardinals got their first win of the season, taking down Bryant and Stratton Syracuse 83-67 on Wednesday Night.
The Cardinals leaned on their defensive pressure in this contest to flip the game in their favor early in the first half. The Bobcats were able to hold the lead for the first 10 minutes, getting to the line 14 times in the first quarter. Bryant and Stratton were all over the glass during the contest, with Lanasia Drain putting up a double-double with 14 rebounds, and Magnama Traore grabbing 11 boards.
The Cardinals turned up the pressure as the second quarter began and took control of the game from that point, forcing 10 turnovers in the quarter. The lead for the Cardinals got as large as 24 into the second half, capitalizing off their 35 total forced turnovers. Their defensive effort was rewarded all night holding the Bobcats to 30 % shooting from the field and 13 % from three.
Ijae Dower led the contest in scoring with twenty points as a team high four assists and five rebounds for the Cardinals. Tarshay Bell and Makenzie Foreman each poured in 14 points with 5 and 6 steals respectively. Amaya Cunningham led the Bobcats in scoring with 18 points while adding in 8 rebounds. Angeleny Cobbs was second on the Bobcats in scoring with 15 and leading the contest in threes made.
The Cardinals' 33 points off turnovers was the key to their first victory of the season as each Bobcat was forced into at least 1 turnover. The Cardinals also showed their depth with 26 points off the bench. Despite their size disadvantage in this one, they used their speed and depth to force disruption and get out in transition throughout the game.
The Lady Cardinals will look to build on this momentum, as they take on Monroe University-Bronx at home, 12pm Sunday November 9th.
