On February 2, The CCBC Catonsville women's basketball team took on Monroe College, losing 91-69.
The Cardinals went up early, taking a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the Cardinals offense could not keep up with Monroe College, as the Mustangs would pull ahead to go on and win the game.
The Cardinals would go down early in the first quarter to Monroe College 8-2. The Cardinals offense would heat up halfway through the quarter thanks to three pointers from Ah'niya Tillery (Coppin Academy) and Ahna Thomas (Bowie High School). It would be more of the same for Thomas and Tillery, as the duo would combine for 18 of the Cardinals 24 points. Alfreda Potter (Carroll Christian School) would end the quarter with a jump shot to put the Cardinals up 24-20.
After another quick start for Monroe College, the Cardinals found themselves going back and forth with the Mustangs. A three-pointer and two free throws from Ahna Thomas would see the Cardinals take the lead back, 29-28, with seven minutes to go in the half. With a minute left to go, the Cardinals would find themselves down 42-29. Thanks to four straight points from Kayla Cabbagestalk (Chesapeake High School) and a layup from Ah'niya Thomas, the Cardinals would go into the half down seven, 42-35.
The Cardinals would find themselves down big again, after Monroe College started off strong from the three-point line as the Cardinals would find themselves down 13 after four minutes. Five points from Kayla Cabbagestalk and a three-pointer from Ah'niya Thomas would see that deficit shrink to four points. However, the Mustangs offense would get hot late in the quarter, the Cardinals were down 68-54 with one quarter left to play.
In the fourth quarter the Cardinals would not be able to mount a comeback, as the Cardinals could not find rhythm on offense. The Cardinals would lose to Monroe College, 91-69.
The Cardinals leading scorer was Ah'niya Thomas, with a season-high 29 points along with going 6-12 from the free-point line. Ahna Thomas would finish the game with 13 points and six assists. Amaree McKnight (National Christian Academy) would finish with 12 points. Off the bench, Kayla Cabbagestalk would finish with 10 points for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals are now 9-7.
