Cardinals Resilience Leads To Big Win

On Wednesday, January 18th the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals hosted a match against the Anne Arundel Community College, in what ended up being a fierce battle of resilience. This game entertained fans and viewers alike with four straight quarters of dominance and a true testament of how to a team can stay locked in, when met with adversity.

Just at the end of the 1st quarter, the Cardinals cemented a strong 18 point lead led by a strong starting performance by Cardinals guard Ahna Thomas's (Bowie High School, MD ) dual excellence with 7 early points and 5 rebounds. This major lead would be held throughout the final second of this match.

Throughout this second quarter, both the Cardinals offense and defense only got better as time moved on. The team built their lead by adding another 20 points of scores, with the major assistance of Thomas's 10 points, guard Lauryn Russell's (Pallotti High School, MD) spectacular 3-pointer and total of 8 points and forward Kayla Cabbagestalk's (Chesapeake High School, MD) 4 rebounds and one block. The first half ends with a total score of 40 – 14 in the Cardinals favor.

In the third quarter, the Cardinals received a big boost from forward Amaree McKnight's (National Christian Academy, MD) 4 point, 2 steal and single block performance this quarter. As both teams looked to go big and score as much as possible, the Cardinals refused to give up the lead they built, as the quarter ended 40 – 55 with one quarter of basketball to play.

Finally in the fourth and final quarter, the Cardinals would be faced with playing without some of their key contributors. Yet the team's passion to retain their lead and play through any and all adversity would introduce them to a major win. McKnight contributed in holding their lead with a 10 point quarter per and went perfect on her free throw opportunities. This 22 point performance would tie for her highest points scored in a game this season. This Cardinals team showed us just how competitive this team can play in any situation they're met with, as they won at home big with a final score of 79 – 53 and improving their positive record.
