Cards and Dragons Play Back & Forth Doubleheader

Catonsville MD- CCBC and Howard played each other back and forth in both games of their doubleheader, where the Howard Dragons would take both games 5-3 and 18-14 in extra innings.

Game 1 saw the Cardinals and Dragons match each other in the first 5 innings. Howard would open up the scoring in the second inning with a 2 RBI double by Gianna Peluso. The Cardinals would respond in the 3rd with a Maggie Rowland RBI single, and she would be scored by a Gianna Guglielminetti double to tie the game. Howard would break the tie in the 5th inning with a Marissa Webb solo HR and would not relinquish the lead. A two rbi single in the top of the 6th would extend the Dragon lead to 3. The Cards would try to storm back in with an Aliceanna Weibley RBI double in the bottom half of the 6th, to cut the lead to 2. The Cardinals would get the winning run on first with bases loaded in the 7th, but weren't able to capitalize and would fall 5-3 in game 1.

In Game 2 the Cardinals and Dragons would combine for 32 runs on 36 hits in an extra innings contest that would go 8.  Both teams would build leads early on, as the Dragons would have a 7-2 lead going into the bottom of the third inning. This is when CCBC would answer back and cut the lead to one and would eventually take the lead 11-7 in the bottom of the 4th. From this point the Cardinals would be held scoreless until the the 8th inning, as the Dragons would score 11 unanswered to blow the game open and take the second game of the doubleheader. The Cardinals offense however put up massive numbers with 30 total hits over the two games, including 20 in game two. Aliceanna Weibley would collect 6 hits and 4 doubles over two games including a 4-5 game two. Alana Watts hit the only Cardinal homer on the day in the 8th inning of game two, while Renee Askin would cross the plate 4 times in that contest. Emily Fagan would be a workhorse on the mound, throwing over 200 pitches total in the circle and going 7 innings in each game.

The Cardinals will close their regular season next week on Tuesday April 28 as they're at home against Cuyahoga Community College.
