Catonsville MD, April 10th, 2026- Cardinals softball split a doubleheader with Monroe University, featuring a high scoring 11-10 game 1 victory, and a 9-1 loss in game 2.
CCBC opened the doubleheader with a big performance by the offense which featured 11 runs on 8 hits, drawing 9 walks. The Cardinals patience at the plate was key as they scored 11 runs with only 2 extra base hits. A 6-run inning in the bottom of the 4th would stretch the Cardinals lead to 8. Monroe would extend the game with a two out RBI double to avoid the mercy rule. The Mustangs would then score 7 more runs in between the 5th and 6th innings to make it 11-10 going into the final inning. Emily Fagan would stay strong on the mound and close out a complete game win. Ava Blum would lead the Cardinals with 2 hits and 3 RBI, while Maggie Rowland would also add 2 hits, 3 runs, and 2 RBI while reaching base in all of her plate appearances along with Alana Watts.
Game two would see the Cardinals offense cool off as they would only muster three hits and a run following their 11-run game one performance. Alana Watts would be the only source of scoring for the Cardinals with a solo homer in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Maggie Rowland would gather another base hit in game two, while Caitlin Miles would have the third and final hit for CCBC. The Mustangs offensive momentum would carry over from the end of game one as they would get 9 runs on 12 hits with 4 errors by the Cardinals.
CCBC will look for a doubleheader sweep next as they travel to take on Lackawanna College April 11th in a doubleheader at 12/2PM.
