Cardinals Drop Tough Doubleheader against Frederick

Frederick, MD – The Cardinals suffered two close losses against Frederick Community College on Wednesday. They lost Game 1 6-3, and Game 2 6-5.

Game 1

The Cardinals got off to a hot start in Game 1, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to a Sarah Devilbiss single. However, the lead quickly evaporated. Frederick bounced back with a four-run second inning and added one more run in the fourth and fifth inning as well.

The Cardinals added one more run in the top of the seventh thanks to an Alana Watts homerun, but they couldn't overcome the deficit, losing 6-3.

Catonsville got good production from the top of their lineup, with eight of their nine hits coming from their top four hitters. Alana Watts went 3-4 with a homerun and Sarah Devilbiss went 3-3 with two RBIs.

Game 2 was a heartbreaking loss for Catonsville. Frederick went up early with four runs in the first two innings, but the Cardinals responded with four runs of their own in the third. By the end of the seventh inning, both teams were knotted up at five entering extra innings. After failing to score in the top of the eighth, Frederick walked off the Cardinals to end the game.

The Cardinals received a standout performance from Alana Watts once again, who went 3-4 with another home run and two RBIs. Riley Nace also had two RBIs and two hits of her own. Makayla Elligson also did a nice job in relief for Catonsville, pitching five innings while allowing just one earned run.
