Cardinals Fall to Bears in Final Home Game of 2022 season

On Tuesday, October 18th, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals men's soccer team played their final home game of the season against the Harcum College Bears. The Cardinals fought hard through the cold, but the game ended 4-0 in favor of the Bears.

The first period was a showcase for Cardinal's goalkeeper Austin Thomas (Rosedale, MD) and the defense. Harcum College would fire off 17 total shots in the first half, with Thomas making 7 saves and the Cardinal's defense blocking two shots. Freshman defenseman Paul Catalfamo (Rosedale, MD) was out of the squad again for the game due to injury, but his teammates have stepped up to fill his important role in the squad.

Catonsville had two chances to take the lead in the first period, but shots from freshman forward Mike Miranda (Catonsville, MD) and sophomore forward Ryan Drummond would both go wide right. Despite an impressive offensive showing in the first half from the Bears, the Cardinal's defense stayed strong, and the half ended 0-0.

Harcum would find their first goal in the 53rd minute. A scrum in front of Catonsville's goal would result in a tap in for freshman striker/winger Lorenzo Ferrari (Palestro, Italy). The Bear's offensive attack would continue with freshman goalkeeper Austin Thomas (Rosedale, MD) recording 4 saves in the following 10 minutes.

The Cardinal's defense fought hard for the remaining 20 minutes of the match, but the Bear's offensive attack would prove to be too much as they would score three more goals in the final 15 minutes.

Coach Onwuka's team has one more regular season game this Thursday, October 20th at Cecil College in North East, MD. The Cardinals will look to end the season on a high note and get their second win of the season.
