Catonsville men's soccer loses to Lackawanna 2-1

On Saturday, September 24th, the Cardinals men's soccer team faced off against the Falcons of Lackawanna College at home. The Falcons had only played two games this season, so the Cardinals were looking to capitalize. The game would end in favor of the Falcons 2-1, but an improved showing from the Catonsville offense surely boosted the team's confidence going forward.

The Cardinals would strike first from a corner kick in the 7th minute. Freshman defenseman James Anderson (Baltimore, MD) headed the ball off the cross bar and across the line, thanks to a perfectly delivered cross from freshman forward Alec Britton (Dundalk, MD). This would be the first time in the 2022 season that the Cardinals had a lead in a game.

The Falcons would answer the Cardinal's early goal in the 13th minute with a goal by sophomore forward Ahmed Kaid (Staten Island, NY). The Cardinal's defense played an excellent game once again, but a free kick shot from freshman forward Kevin Andrade (Scranton, PA) would find its way into the top corner to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead before halftime.

Despite the game ending 2-1 to the Falcons, praise can be given once again to freshman goalkeeper Austin Thomas (Rosedale, MD) and the rest of the Cardinal's defense. The Falcons outshot the Cardinals 20-4, with 12 of those 20 being on goal. Only allowing 2 goals from a strong Falcons offense is not something to hang their head about. Catonsville's offense also looked like it had a new spark in it, and the communication between the players and Coach Onwuka seemed to have something to do with this new energy.

The Cardinals go again on Tuesday, September 27th when they travel to La Plata, MD to take on the Hawks from College of Southern Maryland.
