Cardinals heartbreak after 1-0 loss to Lynx
The Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville and Lynx of Carroll Community College went head-to-head on Tuesday, September 6th. Despite the Cardinal's best efforts, the Lynx would escape with a 1-0 win.
Catonsville would come out on fire at the beginning of the game as within the first 30 seconds freshman midfielder Connor Suhre (Dundalk, MD) would head a shot towards goal, that shot being saved by the keeper. The Cardinal's best chance would come shortly after when the team had a shot ring off the post. Despite the game going into halftime scoreless 0-0, Catonsville recorded 9 shots and 8 corner-kick chances.
The boots for both teams would continue to be on fire in the second half, but the Lynx would be the team to score the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute.
Catonsville's forward Mike Miranda had two more chances to tie and win the game in the 83rd and 88th minutes, but unfortunately Carroll's freshman goalkeeper Samuel Leon (Mount Airy, MD) saved both attempts. The match ended 1-0 to the Lynx, continuing the Cardinal's losing streak to begin the season.
The Cardinals team should not hang their heads, however, as a very impressive offensive showing will give them hope for their next game and rest of season. Freshman goalie Austin Thomas' (Rosedale, MD) five great saves and defensive fight also helped the team hold the Lynx to just one goal despite 9 shots on goal by the Lynx.
Catonsville will travel to Prince Goerge's Community College on Thursday, September 8th for their next match. Kickoff is set to be at 5:00 pm.
