Cardinals Winning Streak Grows to Two
On February 21, the Cardinals took on Harford Community College, coming out on top 84-77.
The Cardinals were looking to go on a winning streak on Wednesday night in Bel Air. The Cardinals dominated offensively throughout the game, resulting in an 84-77 win on the road.
In the first half, the Cardinals got out to an early lead, with a Jalen Yates (Baltimore City High School) three-pointer putting the Cardinals up 9-1 just under three minutes into the game. Jalen Yates would hit his third three-pointer of the game with just under eight minutes left to go in the half. Carlos Green (Pikesville High School) would hit a three-pointer with just under four minutes to go, giving the Cardinals a 12-point lead. The Cardinals would take a five-point lead into the half, up 36-31.
To start the second half, both teams would go back and forth scoring. Darrian Jones (St. Frances Academy) would sink a layup that would see the Cardinals take a seven-point lead five minutes into the half. A Darrian Jones three-pointer and a Christopher Johnson (St. George's High School) layup would increase the Cardinals lead to nine, 61-52. The Fighting Owls would make it a five-point game with under two minutes to go. However, thanks to a Jalen Yates three-pointer with under a minute left, the Cardinals would take control of the game till the end, winning 84-77.
The Cardinals leading scorer was Jalen Yates, scoring 20 points while going 6-12 from the three-point line. Maurice Smith (Newton High School) finished with 18 points, going 9-14 from the field. Christopher Johnson finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points with 10 rebounds. Off the bench Carlos Green had 10 points and three steals.
The Cardinals are now 12-15.
