Cardinals Sweep the Weekend with Big Win over Knights
CCBC Catonsville's men's basketball team completed the weekend sweep on Sunday, defeating Kingsmen Academy for their third win of the Randy Gregory Tournament and their fourth straight victory.
The Cardinals (9-11, 2-3) saw three players score in double digits as they finished off Kingsmen with a big second half, completing the weekend as the only team to finish the Randy Gregory Tournament undefeated.
In a tight first half, the Cardinals found themselves trailing to Kingsmen, the Knights having come off a big upset win over Baltimore City the previous day. With seconds to spare, freshman guard Darrian Jones (St. Frances) sank a three-pointer to make the score 40-37 in favor of Kingsmen.
Trailing by three, the Cardinals erupted in the second half. Led by the scoring duo of sophomore guard Keith Bullock Jr. (Cardozo) and sophomore forward Christopher Johnson (St. George's), the Cardinals outscored the Knights 52-28 en route to their biggest win of the year. The 89 points scored were a season-high for the Cardinals.
Bullock finished the evening with a season-high 21 points while scoring a double-double with 16 rebounds. Johnson made it two straight games with 20+ points, scoring a season-high 21. He also finished with a double-double, recording 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jalen Yates (Baltimore City) added 14 points, while sophomore forward Austin Smith (Randallstown) added eight rebounds.
Next up for the Cardinals is an evening match with Prince George's County on Wednesday, January 25.
