Essex Uses Early Offense to Defeat Cardinals

Catonsville, MD - April 9, 2026 – Essex Uses Early Offense to Defeat Cardinals

The Cardinals were unable to recover from an early deficit as CCBC Essex used a strong start at the plate to earn a 14–3 win. Essex opened the scoring in the first inning and extended their lead with a six-run second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run and several timely hits.

Catonsville was limited offensively through the first four innings, recording one hit while Essex pitching kept runners off the bases. Essex added two additional runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of passed balls and defensive pressure to make it 9–0.

The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Adrian Hernandez reached base to start the rally, and Wyatt Bickers drove in a run with a triple. Catonsville added two more runs in the inning, aided by walks and wild pitches, to cut the deficit to 9–3.

While the Cardinals fought hard, Essex answered in the seventh inning with five runs on three hits to extend the lead and put the game out of reach.

The Cardinals will look to regroup and make a comeback as they take on the Prince George's Owls on April 11 at 12/2:30pm.
