Catonsville, MD -- CCBC Catonsville fell in both games of its doubleheader against the College of Southern Maryland on April 4, dropping Game 1, 9-6, and Game 2, 17-6.
In the opener, the Cardinals showed fight offensively, totaling eight hits and six runs. Skyler Jersey led the way with a home run and three RBI, while Wyatt Bickers and Yamil Santiago each drove in runs to keep CCBC within reach. Despite their efforts, Southern Maryland used timely hitting to pull away late and secure the win.
In Game 2, the Cardinals again found production at the plate but were unable to keep pace with Southern Maryland's explosive offense. Skyler Jersey continued his strong performance with three RBI, while Yamil Santiago added two hits and an RBI. Wyatt Bickers also contributed offensively, but Southern Maryland capitalized on big innings, including a six-run surge that broke the game open.
On the mound, CCBC used multiple arms across both games, with Mason Pfeifer, Jordan Brewer, and others working to contain Southern Maryland's lineup. However, consistent pressure from the opposition proved difficult to overcome. While the Cardinals showed flashes offensively, Southern Maryland's ability to string together hits and capitalize on opportunities ultimately led to the sweep. The cardinals will move forward and look towards the next game against Anne Arundel Community College to pull out a win.
