Hagerstown, MD – The Cardinals split their doubleheader against Hagerstown Community College. They lost Game 1 by a score of 6-2 but bounced back in Game 2 with a 10-4 win.
Game 1
The Cardinals couldn't fight back into it after an early deficit in Game 1. The big issue for the Cardinals was their offense, which was shut out until the sixth inning. They only tallied five hits as a team, with three of them coming from Sam Kelly who was a perfect 3-3 on the day.
Hagerstown scored five runs in the first three innings off Catonsville starter Dominick Venta, putting the Cardinals in an early hole. Brayden Becker did manage to keep the Cardinals in it with a strong outing in relief. He threw four innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one run. However, the offense got going too late, leading to a 6-2 loss.
Game 2
The offense bounced back in a big way in Game 2, putting up 10 runs in the win. There were contributions throughout the lineup, with seven different hitters getting on base for Catonsville. Joel Tapia Melo had a big game for the Cardinals, going 2-2 with two doubles and two walks. Coby Vallee also had a nice day, going 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
The pitching staff pieced together a nice game, with three different pitchers throwing in the win. A.J Bender lasted only 1.1 innings as the starter, but A.J Perry and J.P Tennant got it done in relief. They combined for 5.2 innings, allowing just one run and two hits.
It was a good response for the Cardinals after a tough Game 1.
