Cardinals Split the Double Header
Game 1
On Tuesday May 3, 2022, The Cardinals hosted Allegany College of Maryland Trojans for a double header matchup. The Cardinals came into this matchup on an eight-game winning streak.
In the first inning, the Trojans striked first adding two-runs to their score making the score 2-0 Trojans. The Cardinals came alive in the second inning, off of a homerun from Tony D'Angeli (). This would make the game closer with a score of 2-1 with the Trojans still in the lead.
In the third inning, the Cardinals Angelo Ramirez (), added to the lead with another homerun to make the score even 2-2.
The fourth inning was quiet with nobody scoring. In the fifth inning, that changed when the Cardinals were up to bat when they took the lead. It started with Roman March (), doubling to left center field scoring Christian Figueroa (). A few batters later Alex Elliot (), singled to left field scoring March from third base.
This would be the last run of the games for both teams, and the Cardinals would come away with another win, keeping the win streak alive to nine games.
Game 2
In the second game of the double header the Cardinals put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, coming out making a statement. Elliot singled to second base scoring Ramirez and March. A few batters later Pete Howell (), singled to right field advancing D'Angeli to second and scoring Elliot. Two batters later Lexius Calderon (), reached on a fielders' choice, which scored D'Angeli on the play.
In the second inning, the Cardinals let up one run, making the game 4-1. In the third inning, the Cardinals let up another 4 runs, which gave the Trojans the lead with the score being 5-4. In the fifth inning, the Trojans added to their lead making the game 6-4.
In the sixth inning, the Trojans started to pad their lead, stretching it out to 8-4, adding two more runs. In the bottom half of the sixth the Cardinals answered back with one run, when Ramirez struck out swinging, but reached on the drop third strike, while Orlando Perez Jr (), scored on the wild pitch. This would make the score 8-5 Trojans still ahead.
The Cardinals would come up short in the seventh inning, allowing the Trojans to come away with the win, and the Cardinals nine game winning streak is broken. The Cardinals now sit at 24-22 on the season with a 15-8 conference record.
The Cardinals travel to Chesapeake College on May 5th for a double header conference series.
