Baseball vs. Hagerstown

Game 1

On Saturday, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals took on Hagerstown Community College. The Cardinals came into this series with a 6-8 record, while the Hagerstown Hawks sat at an impressive 11-5. This series was a tough series and to start off this double header the Hawks came out in the first inning putting up three runs making it 3-0. The cardinals were not able to score a run until the fourth inning.

Angelo Ramirez (Atlanta, GA) started off the inning with a bomb hit to right center field, with his first double of the series. Ramirez then got the sign to steal third and then scored on a wild collision at third causing the third basemen to drop the ball at third, flying out of his glove allowing Ramirez to easily make it to home. This would make the 3-1 in the fourth.

Throughout the whole game the Cardinals tried to keep the game close, and in the sixth inning they brought the game back to within two points. On a double by Pete Howell (Maitland, FL) to right center, Alex Elliot (Clarksville, MD) was able to round third and make it home safely making the game 4-2 with a hope of taking the lead in the bottom of the seventh for a walk off. The Hawks thought differently scoring another two runs in the top of the seventh securing their lead making it a final of 6-2.

Game 2

The second game of the double header was under way with a shutout through two innings. The third inning was much different from the first two with Hagerstown scoring three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, and one in the fifth. After the top of the fifth the Hawks were up 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth the Cardinals woke up and scored three runs. The Cardinals had bases loaded with Brian Titus (Pasadena, MD) on third, Roman March (Baltimore, MD) on second, and Angelo Ramirez on first. Each runner advanced on a wild pitch bringing home Titus. Mark Brady (Catonsville, MD) hit a sacrifice fly bringing home Roman March from third. Soon after Tony D'Angeli (Columbia, MD) singled to right center scoring Ramirez, which made the game a little closer with a score of 6-3 with more hope of a comeback. In the sixth the Hawks scored one more run making it 7-3 where the game would end. At the end of this series the Cardinals finished with a 6-10 record, while the Hawks came out with a 13-5 record.
