Cardinals split weekend doubleheader against the Catamounts

Game 1: Cardinals 7 (10-13), Catamounts 5 (14-9). WP – Travis Weaver (2-4), LP – Dalton Benson (0-1).

  • A key stolen base by Roman March allows him to come home later in the first inning after a ground out RBI from Alex Elliott
  • The Catamounts broke the game open in the top of the 5th after two singles and a walk loaded the bases
  • Anthony Swenda and Caleb Taylor bring in all three runners on a single to left field and a ground out to make the game 3-1 in favor of the Catamounts
  • The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the 6th after Tony D'Angeli singles to left center field to bring in Alex Elliott and Christian Figueroa, making the game even at three a piece
  • A scary final inning of pitching from Travis Weaver allowed the Catamounts to put two more on the board after three players were hit by a pitch and a wild pitch allowed two runners to advance and one to come home
  • Alex Elliott and Tomas Martinez were there to save the day after Elliot tied the game on a single to left field for two RBIs, followed by a homerun by Martinez to give the Cards a 7-5 victory

 

Game 2 : Cardinals 2 (10-14), Catamounts 5 (15-9). WP – Jake Arnold (4-1), LP – Patrick Bauer (2-2). SV – MacHugh Messier (0-0).

  • Brian Titus looked to set a tone for game two after hitting a homerun in the bottom of the 2nd for two RBIs
  • A costly error from the Cardinals allowed Dakota Miller of the Catamounts to tie the game after bringing home two runners on a single to the shortstop
  • Unfortunately, the Cardinals were unable to get anything going for the remainder of the game
  • The Catamounts took the lead and ultimately, the win, in the 7th inning when they brought in three runs off a homerun from Josh Hoffman and a sacrifice fly from Clay Maholic
