Catonsville Cardinals V.S. Erie Cats

Catonsville Cardinals V.S. Erie Cats

Game One

On Friday March 18, CCBC Catonsville Cardinals hosted Erie Community College Cats for a double header matchup. Catonsville comes to the plate with a 5-7 record while the Erie Cats were holding onto an 8-3 record.

Max Cutts (Orlando, Florida), CCBC Catonsville's starting pitcher, threw a total of 123 pitches; 75 strikes and 48 balls. Falling into a quick hole, CCBC had an unfortunate start to the game finding themselves down 3-0 in the top of the first inning; however, the Cardinals did not let this stop them. Pushing back in the bottom of the first scoring two runs, the Cardinals brought the score up making it a 3-2 game.

The next three innings were quiet while the Cardinals pitching came alive until the fifth inning when the Cats bats became hot scoring six runs in the top of the fifth. While the Cats stretched their lead to 10 runs, the Cardinals were able to add six more by the end of the game. Even though the cardinals were able to add runs, it was still not enough to reach the Cats, ending game one with a final of 11-8.

Game Two

In game two, Lexies Calderon (Kissimmee, Florida) got the momentum moving in the bottom of the second singling to third base. Christian Figueroa (North Arlington, New Jersey) was next to bat but was hit by a pitch putting him on first and advancing Calderon to second. Caleb Bailey (Severn, Maryland) was on deck and he did not disappoint; hitting a shot out to right center field, Bailey drove in both Calderon and Figueroa for two RBI's. Soon after, Noah Deluca (Odenton, Maryland) doubled to left center field bringing in Bailey from second base for an RBI ending the second inning 3-0 Cardinals.

This game was a lot stronger for the defense only letting up one run throughout the whole game, which happened to be in the top of the fifth. At that point, the Cardinals had already added another run making it 4-1. The Cardinals were able to secure the win in the second half of the double header, breaking even for the day. With an outstanding performance, Tomas Martinez (West New York, New Jersey) was the starting pitcher for game two and was one pitch shy of throwing a 100 with 61 strikes and 38 balls receiving the win on the day. The final score for the second game of the double header ended with a 4-1 victory for the Cardinals.

This would put the Cardinals at 6-8 for the season, leaving the Cats with a record of 9-4.
