Freshman pitcher Amy Propst threw a Perfect Game on Thursday, April 26th against the Montgomery College Raptors on the last day of the regular season for the CCBC Lady Cardinals softball team. Propst struck out three batters on her way to her first Perfect Game in her college career. The strong effort by Propst helped the Lady Cardinals secure the #2 seed in the Region XX DII Softball tournament.
The CCBC Lady Cardinals ended their regular season sweeping the doubleheader against the Raptors on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals won both games in five innings via the Run-Ahead rule (8+ run lead after five innings) with scores of 10-0 and 12-2 respectively.
Propst was phenomenal on the mound, she has the fourth lowest ERA in the Maryland JUCO Conference. She had two hits and a RBI in the game to increase her conference leading RBI’s.
Sophomore Catcher Erin Muir (Loch Raven) had two hits and two RBI’s in the game. Freshman outfielder Alleshia Pullen (Dulaney) had a solo home run in the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Pullen continued to rake having four hits hitting for the cycle. She also had three RBI’s in the game. She hit a home run in this game as well, increasing her season total to eight, which is the second highest in the conference.
Sophomore pitcher Kelly Krizmanich (Paint Branch) pitched a complete game giving up only two runs to earn her fifth win of the season.
Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Yarrish (Howard), sophomore third baseman Sarah Heagy (Eastern Tech), and freshman first baseman Hailey Manning (Severna Park) all had multiple hits and two RBI’s each in last game of the regular season for the Lady Cardinals.
They began their postseason this Saturday playing the first round of the Regional tournament right here in Catonsville. The Lady Cardinals took on the #7 seed Frederick Community College, the Lady Cardinals won both games to advance to the second round of the Regional tournament hosted by Cecil College this weekend. The winner of the Regional tournament this weekend will punch their ticket to 2018 NJCAA DII Softball World Series in Clinton, Mississippi.
The Lady Cardinals won the first two games, with scores of 10-5 and 9-0 respectively to advance to the second round of the Regional tournament.
In the first game, Sarah Heagy led the way for the Lady Cardinals. She went 4 for 4 scoring two runs. She is batting .618 on the season which leads the conference and NJCAA DII.
Amy Propst continued her domination in all facets of the game, she pitched another complete game this week to earn her thirteenth win of the season, which is second in the conference. She had four RBI’s and a home run in the game. She leads the conference in both those categories.
Propst has 55 RBI’s on the season and the next closest player on the conference leaderboard has 38. Erin Muir and Alleshia Pullen are among the four players tied for second with 38 RBI’s on the season.
After winning the first game of the series, the Lady Cardinals needed to win one of the next two games to advance in the tournament.
Sarah Heagy pitched a complete game four hit shutout in the second game to help the Lady Cardinals advance. She has the fifth lowest ERA and third most wins in the conference. She went 2 for 2 with two RBI’s offensively.
The Lady Cardinals will take on the #3 seed Potomac State Friday afternoon on the campus of Cecil College in the second round of the Regional tournament. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the game between #1 Chesapeake College and #5 seed Hagerstown in the semifinals, while the losers of the two games will play in the elimination game on Saturday.
The finals of the Regional tournament will take place on Sunday, May 6th at Cecil College with the winner advancing to NJCAA DII World Series which will take place in Clinton, MS starting on May 16th.
